Tariq Kiani, an alleged agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Canada who owns Republic Plus TV, has defended the violence in Canada ahead of Diwali, blaming Hindus for aggravating the situation.

Kiani, in a 30-minute video, claimed Sikhs were protesting peacefully and it was Hindus who began the skirmishes on November 3, videos of which went viral on social media.

Top intelligence sources told CNN-News18 that Kiani works on the directions of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and his attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were scripted by the neighbouring country.

“Name calling a sitting prime minister is uncultured and hopefully, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is watching this,” the sources said, adding that under Trudeau, attacks on Hindus and the Indian prime minister are the “new normal”.

In the video, Kiani can also be heard speaking against National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

“His TV show is interfering with India’s domestic politics from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. It is unwarranted that he is calling a sitting government criminal. He is also defending gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and clearly denying his presence in Canada,” the sources said.

Kiani and his aide and ISI agent Rahat Rao are under the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) scanner in connection with the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a wanted Khalistani terrorist. Recently, a chemical substance was hurled at Rao.

On the issue of Nijjar, the sources said: “Close proximity to the terrorist was impossible unless someone knew him. Rao and Kiani are two ISI plants in Canada who are doing maximum work for the intelligence agency. They are also handling terrorists who are coming from India and are under the wanted list.”

According to sources, the duo may have been given the task of killing Nijjar due to business reasons.

“The task was given to finish Nijjar so that the drug business can be directly controlled by Rao and Kiani. Nijjar was becoming powerful with time and gaining popularity in the local Canadian community. Sources say Rao, Kiani and Pannun were possibly given the task to control the drug and immigration business which is the main source of income for them. However, Nijjar’s proximity and affection for Pakistan-based group leaders was also a problem for ISI. So, probably to restructure all businesses, they made Nijjar the first target.”
