Sidhu has been at loggerheads with Amarinder Singh since he attacked him in 2015 over alleged delay in justice in sacrilege cases. Singh wrote a letter to Harish Rawat a day after he met Sonia GandhiWhile making a case against giving important post to Sidhu in Punjab Congress, he said that whatever the decision of the Congress President will be accepted by all.

Rawat had left for Chandigarh as tensions escalated in the Punjab unit of the Congress over differences between Amarinder and Sidhu. The chief minister was later quoted by his media advisor as saying that he had a fruitful meeting with Rawat.

โ€œHad a fruitful meeting with @harishrawatcmuk. Reiterated that any decision of @INCIndia President will be acceptable to all.
