Sidharth Malhotra mourns the death of General Bipin Rawat, shares picture from the trailer launch of ‘Shershaah’

New Delhi: The news of the sudden demise of Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has shook the entire nation. Actor Sidharth Malhotra also expressed grief over the sad news and shared his recent picture with the late dignitary on his social media handle.

Sidharth who played the lead role in the recently released patriotic film ‘Shershaah’, took to his Instagram handle to share a group picture from the trailer launch of the film held in Kargil on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas this year.

The snap features the family members of the late Indian Army captain Vikram Batra, whose life and valor are depicted in the film. In this picture, the lead actors of ‘Shershaah’ Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, filmmaker Karan Johar and director Vishnuvardhan were seen posing with CDS General Bipin Rawat.

Sharing the picture, Sidharth wrote, “Really sad and shocked by the tragic loss of CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others. It was an honor to meet him at the trailer launch of Shershaah recently. Om Shanti #restinpeace #bipinrawat.”

Indian Air Force today confirmed the sad news through its official Twitter handle which read, “With deepest regret, it is now learned that General Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 others on board the unfortunate accident. I have been killed.”

The helicopter crashed around noon, shortly after taking off for Wellington in the Nilgiri Hills from the Air Force base at Sulur in Coimbatore. The General was on his way to the Defense Services Staff College in Wellington today to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course.

A veteran of counter-insurgency warfare, CDS Rawat has served in the toughest areas, including the Northern and Eastern Command.

CDS Rawat was inducted into the Indian Army in December 1978. He previously served as the Chief of Army Staff from January 2017 to December 2019.
