Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday stressed on rationality in the matter of air ticket prices, saying that we cannot have prices that should be rationalised.

“We must ensure that the ceiling prices are within a certain limit and we have given this message very clearly to the airlines. We cannot have prices that should be rationalised, especially when our There are some incidents like first go situation or other calamities or extenuating circumstances,” he said.

He emphasized that airlines should be proactive in terms of monitoring their prices as opposed to being reactive following the steps taken by the Ministry or DGCA as this should also be a part of their social objective. And this message has been given very clearly, Scindia said.

Take risks: Scindia urges domestic airlines

Earlier in the month, Scindia urged domestic airlines to help set up an international civil aviation hub in India and stressed on the need for more wide-body aircraft for point-to-point international services for passengers.

“Margins are low, revenue is low but airlines are comfortable competing on the domestic side as volatility is low. The minute you move to the international side, revenue is high… but volatility is high. I request airlines I do.” Scindia said one has to face ups and downs in taking risks as India’s flag has to be flown in international airspace.

Speaking at the annual session of industry body CII in the national capital, the minister stressed the need for more wide-body aircraft in the domestic carriers’ fleet to make the country an international civil aviation hub.
