Shooting: Ganemat Sekhon wins women’s skeet silver at Junior Worlds

Rising Indian woman skeet shooter Ganemat Sekhon won a silver medal at the ISSF Junior World Championships here.

It was India’s fifth medal of the day.

The Chandigarh shooter, who won her maiden senior ISSF World Cup stage medal in New Delhi earlier this year, went down in the shoot-off to take on American Alisha Faith, when the two tied for 46 hits in the 60-shot final .

Sara Bongini of Italy won the bronze medal.

It was a fruitful Thursday for the country with Manu Bhaker claiming the gold in the women’s 10m air pistol, with teammate Isha Singh claiming the silver.

Mumbai’s Rudrank Balasaheb Patil started the medal race with a silver medal in the men’s 10m air rifle and Ramita followed it up with a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle.

In the women’s skeet final, second Indian Raija Dhillon could not progress further and finished sixth after scoring 14 goals from the first 20.

India also finished out of the medal category in the men’s 10m air pistol, with Naveen finishing fourth, Sarabjot Singh sixth and Vijayveer Sidhu eighth as all three advanced to the final.

In men’s skeet, none of the three Indians Rajveer Gill, Abhay Singh Sekhon and Ayush Rudraraju could make it to the six-man final.
