Shoojit Sircar says Vicky Kaushal got the part of Sardar Udham Singh, not Masaan Uri

The trailer of Vicky Kaushal starrer Sardar Udham was released recently, and people appreciated the lead actor for his strong performance. While everyone is excited to see the film releasing on Amazon Prime Video on October 16, director Shoojit Sircar revealed an exciting anecdote. He said that because he liked Vicky’s performance in a film, he finalized him for the role of Sardar Udham. But interestingly, he said that the film is not Uri but some other film of the actor.

Sarkar and Vicky discussed their upcoming film Sardar Udham during an event where the director said that he discovered Vicky through his excellent performance in the 2015 film Masaan. He then explained that he had not even seen Uri – The Surgical Strike.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2021, the director said, “I have not seen Uri. I want to thank Vicky for choosing Masaan, otherwise, he would not be doing Sardar Udham. There is a bit of Punjabi in it and I wanted that. I wanted someone on my page. I needed someone who could really understand the part. There was passion and focus with Vicky.”

He further added that Vicky is a jovial young man and his Punjabi dialect helped him get into the part of Sardar Udham Singh. Sarkar commented on the film and the historic Jallianwala Bagh massacre, “People really don’t know about Sardar Udham Singh’s upbringing if he was in Jallianwala Bagh.” He said it was still not clear to the public whether he was actually there. He said that he was essentially a globetrotter.

The government further said that the Jallianwala Bagh massacre had a deep impact on Udham. “I tried to enter into the thoughts of Sardar Udham. What would he have done to him for the last 21 years, that changed him,” Sarkar said.
