Thaikudam Bridge had complained that the song ‘Varaha Roopam’ in Kantara was actually stolen from his song ‘Navarasam’.

Kantara fame Rishabh Shetty and its producer Vijay Krigandur Ahad appeared before Kozhikode Deputy Commissioner of Police KE Baiju on Sunday. The director and producer of the film appeared before the investigating officer after the Supreme Court India On Thursday (February 9, 2023), director Rishab Shetty and producer Vijay Kiragandur were granted anticipatory bail.

The producer and director have given their statements to the police following a complaint lodged by Kerala music band ‘Thaikoodam Bridge’ that one of the songs in the film was the band’s product and was not accepted by the filmmakers.

The band complained that the song ‘Varaha Roopam’ in the film was actually stolen from their song ‘Navarasam’. However, the music director of the film ‘Kantara’ B. Ajneesh Loknath had dismissed the allegations saying that the similarities were due to the same ‘raag’ used in both the songs.

Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara was released Amazon Prime Video on 24 November. While fans were thrilled to watch the film online, they were disappointed to see the changes made to the song Varaha Roopam due to the legal matter. In the OTT version, the famous Varaha Roopam song was cut short as Thaikudam Bridge sought legal action against the makers for allegedly copying the song ‘Navarasam’, which released five years ago. It filed a suit before the Kozhikode district court. Following this, MPPCL, which is the copyright holder of ‘Navarasam’, filed a suit before the Palakkad district court.
