In a shocking incident, a woman, who was declared dead by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was produced in a court on Saturday. The woman had appeared in the court as a witness in the Bihar journalist Rajdev Ranjan murder case. The woman, named Badami Devi, claimed that the CBI had declared her dead, and had even brought her proof of identity, including a voter ID and a PAN card.

The woman told the court, “Huzoor (sir), I am alive. I have been declared dead by the CBI. This has been done as part of a well-planned conspiracy.” The petitioner’s counsel Sharad Sinha submitted that Badami Devi was the main witness in the case and was declared dead in a report filed by the CBI on May 24.

Advocate Sinha raised further questions on the CBI and termed it as “huge negligence” on the part of the investigating agency. “This is gross negligence on the part of CBI. What if the country’s biggest investigating agency acts like this?” Sinha asked.

He further said that the CBI did not even contact the woman and declared the woman dead, besides a report was also submitted.

In this case, the court has issued a show cause notice to the CBI.

The Siwan bureau chief of Hindi daily Hindustan was shot dead in May 2017. He was shot dead by motorcycle-borne criminals near the busy Station Road in North Bihar’s Siwan.

Ranjan’s widow Asha Ranjan had sought directions to register an FIR against RJD leaders Shahabuddin and Tej Pratap Yadav in the murder case for “conspiracy and giving shelter to fugitive criminals”.

In 2017, the CBI took into custody Mohammad Shahabuddin, whose name had cropped up as an accused in the investigation. However, in March 2018, the Supreme Court had closed proceedings against Tej Pratap in the case.
