Shoaib Malik Pakistan’s morale ‘high’ ahead of Namibia match Cricket News – Times of India

Abu Dhabi: Experienced all-rounder Shoaib Malik said on monday PakistanMorale was “high” from last month’s win over India ahead of this week’s Twenty20 World Cup match. Namibia in Abu Dhabi.
Pakistan won three matches in three matches, starting with a stunning ten-wicket win over arch-rivals India, followed by New Zealand and Afghanistan.
They need one more win to qualify for the semi-finals from Group 2 of the Super 12 stage.
“The morale in the camp is high,” said Malik, 39, ahead of Tuesday’s meeting.
“When you win games, the confidence level in the dressing room is pretty high. Everyone is looking forward to playing the rest of the games we have left in the tournament.
“When you start your tournament against a big team (India) and then you win that game, everything comes down to your dressing room.”
Malik, whose tennis star wife Sania Mirza Hailing from India, he declined to comment on his arch-rival’s dismal performance in the event, saying, “We are focusing on our performance and not looking around.”
Malik praised the intensity in the set-up.
“Obviously when you start the tournament, the goal is to give your best shot as a team,” he said.
“But ever since I joined the team, I have watched the Pakistan teams practice sessions and the way they have been dealing with the pressure of the world so far, it has been exceptionally good,” he said.
Pakistan has never played a Twenty20 International against Namibia, while they won the only ODI between the two sides in the 2003 World Cup (50 overs) in South Africa by a margin of 171 runs.
But Malik said Namibia, who qualified in the first round and defeated Scotland, would not be taken lightly.
He said, “To be honest, we are not thinking anything differently because the T20 format is a place where you cannot take the opposition lightly.
“And we are absolutely convinced, so we look forward to the game.”
Pakistan have played the same XI in all three matches, but given a relatively easy opponent, who is ranked 15th in the world in the format, he could turn his team around.
Malik acknowledged that bio-secure confinement is a challenge for players in the Covid-19 restrictions.
“Bubble life, it’s a tough thing, especially when you like to play back-to-back series,” he said.
“And being in a bubble, it’s not an easy thing to go through. But the good thing is that we have our families with us. We are spending a lot of time together as family, as teammates. So this is a good thing.
“But when your goal is to achieve something in life, you have to go through a tough yard, and we have that in our mind. And we are focusing only for this particular tournament. And some have even enjoyed the bubble life. started. ”
