Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday likened the partition of India to the current situation in Afghanistan and said it reminds people of the pain of the country’s existence and destruction of sovereignty.
Raut also said in his weekly column ‘Rokhthok’ in Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ that if Nathuram Godse had killed Jinnah “responsible for creating Pakistan” instead of Mahatma Gandhi, the partition could have been avoided and would have happened. . There is no need to celebrate 14th August as ‘Partition Horror Remembrance Day’.
“The situation in Afghanistan reminds us of the pain of destruction of the country’s existence and sovereignty,” said the executive editor of the Marathi daily. Raut compared India’s partition to the current situation in Afghanistan, where, he said, its troops “run away”.
“How can the pain of Partition be eased unless the part that was broken is included back? There will be no peace of mind. Even though we think there should be ‘Akhand Hindustan’, it doesn’t seem possible.” But, hope is eternal. If PM Narendra Modi wants ‘Akhand Hindustan, he is welcome. He should also speak about what he is planning to do for around 11 crore Muslims of Pakistan.’
He quoted Marathi writer Narhar Kurundkar on the issue, saying that the advocates of ‘Akhand Hindustan’ had accepted the idea of Muslim League and two nation theory and did not fight against it. Raut said that Mahatma Gandhi was not in active politics when the British introduced the separate Muslim electoral system.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru abolished the system of separate Muslim voters and special facilities for them when India gained independence, said the Shiv Sena leader, whose party shares power with the NCP and Congress in Maharashtra.
He also said that Muslim leaders had left the Congress after Gandhi rejected their unreasonable demands.
