ColomboIndia will play Sri Lanka in the 3-match T20I series under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan. For the first time in the history of Indian cricket, two different squads are training for two different international events. Dhawan recently revealed in a conversation that he is looking at the Sri Lanka T20I series as a move to cement his place in the team.
India recently won the ODI series 2-1. The last match went to the Sri Lankan team after India’s disappointing performance. There was a lot of discussion about who would make it to the final squad for the T20 World Cup to be held in September. Dhawan has made it clear that even the captain of the so-called ‘second string’ Indian team has no fixed place in the team.

“It’s very important. Of course, any international match has its impact, and whenever you perform at an international level it makes a huge impact. So, personally, I really want to perform here and give my best.” Looking forward to cementing the place. For World Cup claim. Then we will see how it pans out in the future,” Dhawan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times on the eve of the first T20I in Colombo on Sunday.
Dhawan later spoke about the Sri Lankan team and their potential.
“I think the competition will be good. You saw the Sri Lankan team improve a lot in the last two (ODI) matches. They played really well and they are a good team with a lot of youngsters. We both have already played. Now It’s been three matches, so both the teams know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. That’s a good thing, and it will add to the challenge.”
The first T20 match will be played in Colombo on Sunday.
