Shikhar Dhawan separates from wife Ayesha Mukherjee

Sources privy to the developments confirmed the news to ANI. In a lengthy post on Monday, Ayesha, a trained kickboxer and sports fanatic, wrote: “I used to think divorce was a dirty word until I got divorced 2 times.”

“It’s funny how words can have so many powerful meanings and associations. I experienced it as a divorcee for the first time. The first time I went through a divorce I was so scared. I felt like I had failed and I was doing something wrong at the time.”

Shikhar and Ayesha got engaged in 2009, but Dhawan postponed the marriage for three years as he wanted to cement his place in the Indian team before taking the plunge. The left-handed opener finally married Ayesha on 30 October 2012.

This was Ayesha’s second marriage and she had two daughters from the first. In 2014, Dhawan and Ayesha were blessed with a baby boy, whom they named Zoravar.

Dhawan, who is trying to find a place in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup, was last seen captaining the youth squad in Sri Lanka. He led the Indian camp coached by Rahul Dravid in six white-ball matches against the islanders.
