Stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan along with coach Rahul Dravid and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were caught enjoying a ‘beautiful night’ with ‘amazing company’ in Colombo. The Team India opener posted a picture on his Instagram account with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and his wife, Nupur Nagar and coach Dravid after taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against the Men in Blue. Dhawan also uploaded a picture to congratulate the Indian players on their performance in the second ODI, specifically mentioning Suryakumar Yadav and Chahar.
India secured a sensational victory as the partnership between Chahar and Bhuvneshwar in the eight-stand saw India chasing a target of 276 to win the series 2-0. Sri Lanka lost focus in the second innings as the hosts could not break the partnership despite controlling most of the match. India were 193/7 in 35 overs, the Men in Blue were on thin ice, however, determination and patience coupled with determination saw Chahar and Bhuvneshwar play sensible cricket, thus leading India to victory.
Chahar scored 69 runs and posted bowling figures of 2/53 in the second ODI, which produced a heroic performance. The credit for rotating strike when needed also goes to Bhuvneshwar, taking a single instead of going big and seen Chahar talking between overs. India won the match by three wickets with a partnership of 84 runs.
As Chahar scored the winning run in the form of a boundary, batsman Suryakumar ran to the ground to give Chahar a hug. The bowling all-rounder posted the picture on Instagram with the caption, ‘We play for these moments’.
Team India captain Virat Kohli, who is in England with the first member Test players, congratulated Suryakumar and Chahar for putting up a ‘tremendous performance’ for the Men in Blue.
India will take on Sri Lanka in the final ODI clash of the three-match series and with a 2-0 lead, the Men in Blue will look to clean sweep the series. The neighbors will face off from the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo from 3:00 PM on 23rd July.
