Chum Darang reacts after Shehzada Dhami questions her identity in Bigg Boss 18.
Bigg Boss 18’s Shehzada Dhami faces backlash after questioning Chum Darang’s identity, leading to a heated confrontation in the house.
Just one day into Bigg Boss 18, tensions are already running high. A promo shared by the makers of the show has revealed an intense clash between contestant Shehzada Dhami and Badhaai Do actor Chum Darang, after Shehzada made an inappropriate comment about her identity.
Colors TV recently dropped a new promo for Bigg Boss 18 on their official social media. In the clip, Shehzada Dhami is heard saying, “Mirchi lag rahi hai (It’s spicy),” to which Chum Darang responded, “Yeh chutney? (This chutney?)” Shehzada then replied, “Tumhare udhar ki hai na (It’s from where you’re from).” This remark visibly irritated Chum, who questioned, “Tumhare udhar ka matlab? (What do you mean by that?)” She firmly added, “I am Indian, and I am offended.”
The confrontation quickly escalated, with Shehzada refusing to apologise and instead accusing Chum of abusing him during the argument. Although the exact nature of Shehzada’s comment wasn’t fully clear from the promo, Chum’s reaction highlighted the hurt caused by the insensitive remarks.
Chum Darang, who hails from the Northeast, has been a strong advocate for representation and inclusivity. The Badhaai Do actor has consistently spoken out about the challenges faced by people from her community, including casual racism and stereotyping. Her confrontation with Shehzada in the Bigg Boss house touches upon an ongoing issue of regional bias and cultural misunderstanding in India, making the conversation all the more significant.
In another promo released ahead of the show’s premiere, Shehzada is seen clashing with fellow contestant and TV star Vivian Dsena. The argument started over a discussion about stardom, with Vivian expressing his belief that enduring stardom comes from years of struggle. Shehzada disagreed, leading to a philosophical debate about fame and its fleeting nature in today’s world.
Bigg Boss 18 kicked off on Sunday with 18 contestants, including actors like Vivian Dsena, Nyrra Banerjee, and Muskan Bamne, alongside internet sensations such as Hema Sharma, also known as ‘Viral Bhabhi’. With its “Time ka Taandav” theme, the season is already off to a fiery start, promising plenty of drama and entertainment.
