‘She was shaken, silent’: Anupam Kher on mother’s reaction to Kashmir files

Actor Anupam Kher, who plays Pushkar Nath, a displaced Kashmiri Pandit and a victim of rebellion in The Kashmir Files, recently spoke about his mother Dulari’s reaction to the film.

In a conversation with Aditya Raj Kaul, Anupam told about Dulari’s reaction, “So she has seen the film twice so far and both times she kept quiet and cried silently.”

Anupam further said that his mother wants those responsible for the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits to be punished and she is happy that the public has now seen the real tragedy after 32 years.

Anupam also posted a video of his mother on social media, in which she is seen discussing the film. She further narrated how her younger brother was threatened and forced to move.

Anupam wrote in the caption, “Mom watched The Kashmir Files with us yesterday! She shook and kept quiet for the longest time. Afterwards, I gave her a never-ending hug. And as I was leaving, she said , ‘It is good that you acted in this film. It was your responsibility towards Kashmiris living across the world. People should know the story’.”

He also revealed that he asked director Vivek Agnihotri to give him the responsibility of executive producer. “I wanted it. Few projects in life go beyond cinema and acting,” he concluded.

For those unaware, The Kashmir Files released on March 11, and the film stars Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi in pivotal roles apart from Anupam.

The Kashmir Files is set in 1990s Kashmir when militancy was at its peak in the state and Kashmiri Pandits were forced to migrate. Despite debuting on low screens, the film is doing well at the box office, thanks to excellent word of mouth.
