Orlando Bloom’s performance in The Cut has left quite an impression, especially on his fiancee, Katy Perry. At the film’s premiere during the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, Bloom revealed in an interview that Perry was so moved by his role that she needed a “stiff drink” to recover. Bloom takes on a demanding role as a boxer who must undergo a significant physical transformation to make a comeback in the ring. To prepare for this role, he followed a grueling diet of just tuna and cucumber for three weeks. This diet was designed to help him start at his lightest weight and then visibly gain pounds as the film progressed.
Bloom described the experience as extremely challenging, both physically and emotionally. He admitted that at times, he felt as though he might collapse. Perry, understanding the effort Bloom had put in, was deeply affected by the film and needed a drink to calm down after watching it, reports People.
Perry’s support during this intense period was invaluable. She managed their daughter while Bloom focused on his role. “She was there throughout, with the kids and stuff. It’s hard for your family,” the actor told People.
Catriona Balfe, who plays Orlando Bloom’s on-screen wife and trainer, observed the drastic physical change in Bloom, noting that he looked “like a raisin” before filming started. John Turturro, another co-star, jokingly suggested that Bloom’s extreme dedication might have been driven by financial incentives, informs People.
