Congress distances itself from Pawar’s statement, opposition unity intact

Commenting on Pawar’s remarks on the Adani issue, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the NCP may have its own views, but 19 like-minded opposition parties are convinced that the issue of the “Adani group linked to the PM” is real and very serious. .
“But all 20 like-minded opposition parties, including the NCP, are united and will be united in defending the Constitution and our democracy from attacks by the BJP and defeating the divisive and destructive political, social and economic agenda of the BJP,” Ramesh said.

Sharad Pawar expressed displeasure over Adani’s statement, said SC committee more effective than JPC
NCP supremo Sharad Pawar said on Saturday that he was not completely against a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the allegations against the Adani Group, but a Supreme Court committee would be more useful and effective.
He said, “I am not completely opposing JPCs… There have been JPCs and I have been the chairman of some JPCs. The JPC will be constituted on the basis of majority (in Parliament). Instead of JPC, I am of the opinion that Supreme Court Committee is more useful and effective,” a PTI The report quoted Pawar as saying.
Speaking to reporters, Pawar said that if the JPC has 21 members, 15 will be from the ruling party and six from the opposition due to strength of numbers in Parliament, which will cast doubt on the panel.
