Shang-Chi Hits Record Breaking Opening at Box Office, Simu Liu Responds to Naysayers

Marvel Studios released its first Asian-led superhero film, Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, last week. Actor Simu Liu plays the superhero of the same name, becoming the first Asian actor to have a standalone Marvel film. However, before Liu became the star he is today, he used to model for stock images. In an interview Liu described her early modeling days for stock images as “the gift that keeps on giving”.

Liu is now using her own stock images on Twitter to react to critics of her latest film, proving just how far the actor has come in her career. Since its worldwide release in theaters last week, Shang Chi has remained strong at the box office collections. Reacting to the success of his film, Liu posted a picture of his stock image and turned it into a meme and captioned it, “I’m laughing at people who thought we’d flop.”

The tweet was posted on Tuesday, and has garnered over 267k likes and over 54k retweets so far. Commenting wittyly on their own stock photo of Liu, fans have shared their own favorite picture from the actor’s early modeling days to react.

A user shared another stock photo of Liu with other models looking at a piece of paper and smiling. Captioning the picture, the user wrote, “Miracle seeing Shang Chi’s box office numbers.” https://twitter.com/Nina__Serafina/status/1435297528036175877?s=20

Another user shared this picture of Liu sitting in the cinema hall watching a film, writing, “OMG (oh my god) it’s you watching Shang Chi.”

Fans have also commented with praise for the actor and his performance in the latest Marvel film. As one user commented, “The movie was awesome. The audience in my theater burst into applause at the end. I loved it in IMAX.”
