‘Shane Watson did a lot of work with Kuldeep Yadav, especially the mental side’

When Kuldeep Yadav rocked the world stage India Visited South Africa in 2018. He along with Yuzvendra Chahal played a big role in India defeating the Proteas by a 5-1 margin. unless IPL 2019 came, Kuldeep had lost his vigor. Especially the way he was belted by Moeen Ali of RCB in a special match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It almost brought him to his knees, with fans still believing he was almost crying after a horrific over where he was belted out loudly by the England all-rounder.

But that was it, soon he started losing his form and started getting ignored by his IPL franchise and the Indian team. He was again in contention after he got a chance for Delhi Capitals thanks to former Australia captain Ricky Ponting. And he made quite an impact, taking 21 wickets in 14 matches.

Speaking to former cricketer Isa Guha on the ICC review, Delhi Capitals head coach Ponting recalled that Kuldeep was one of their main targets going into the mega auction for the 15th edition of the IPL.

“He was one of my targets to go to the auction because I’ve seen how good he’s been in the past,” Ponting said. “His skills had gone nowhere. It was a matter of us being really close to him and making him work as a person. Try and set up an environment and training regime for him so that he can try to bring out the best in him. ,

“We all really worked closely with him. Wato (Shane Watson) worked a lot especially with him on the mental side of the game and we got some good returns from him.
