New Delhi: The much awaited trailer of Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Shamshera’ has been released. Yash Raj Films on Friday released the trailer of the period action film, in which Ranbir plays the first double role of his career. Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor also appeared in the trailer.
Set in the 1800s, ‘Shamshera’ tells the story of a dacoit tribe and their fight for independence against British rule in the fictional town of Kaza. In ‘Shamshera’, Ranbir plays a slave who becomes a leader to save his clan. Sanjay plays the antagonist, Daroga Shuddh Singh, who has enslaved the warrior tribe.
Vaani appears as Sona, a dancer who wins Shamshera’s heart. She warns him not to go against the British
Sanjay Dutt, who plays the main antagonist, appears as a ruthless cop in the film. He is brought to Kaza to control the dacoit Shamshera. At the end of the trailer, Ranbir’s dual role is confirmed as they appear as a father-son duo in the same frame. This is the first time Ranbir is playing a double role in a film. This is also the first time that we get to see the ‘Saawariya’ actor performing some daring stunts in an action film.

‘Shamshera’ is directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. Principal photography for ‘Shamshera’ began in December 2018 and the shooting of the film was completed in 2020. The film also stars Ashutosh Rana, Saurabh Shukla, Ronit Roy, Tridha Choudhary and Pitobash Tripathi. Vaani Kapoor took professional training in Kathak to prepare for her role.
Originally planned for a cinema release on December 20, 2019, the film was delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, it is scheduled to release worldwide on July 22, 2022. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages and will be released in IMAX.
