Mustafizur Rahman, who returned figures of 4-36, and Shakib then shared seven wickets between them to keep Oman down 127-9 and help Bangladesh bounce back from their opening Group B defeat to Scotland.

Oman opener Jatinder Singh scored 40 off 33 balls before falling into Shakib’s left-arm spin.

Left-handed opener Mohammad Naeem, who smashed 64 off 50 balls, and Shakib set up the win for Bangladesh with a crucial second wicket of 80 when the Tigers lost two early wickets.

Oman pacers Bilal Khan and Fayaz Butt took three wickets each to put Bangladesh behind after a big partnership.

Nayeem, who replaced Soumya Sarkar for the crucial match, dropped two catches of 18 and 26 to reach his third T20I half-century.

The Oman bowlers continued to take wickets and with better catches could restrict Bangladesh to a much lower total as Kashyap Prajapati missed two chances and Jatinder gave another.

Earlier in the day, Scotland beat Papua New Guinea in the first match to register their second successive win and are now on the verge of making the next leg.
