Shakib Al Hasan, Stafanie Taylor voted ICC Player of the Month for July

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and West Indies captain Stephanie Taylor were on Wednesday named the ICC Players of the Month for July in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

Shakib’s contribution in all three formats of the game helped Bangladesh win the series against Zimbabwe last month.

He scored an unbeaten 96 in Bangladesh’s three-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the second ODI at Harare Sports Club.

In T20Is, Hasan took three wickets at an economy rate of seven, helping his country win the series against Zimbabwe. He is also the top all-rounder in the latest ICC Men’s T20 Rankings.

“It is very humbling to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2021. There have been many outstanding performances during the month and so it is special for me,” said Shakib, who dropped Australia’s Mitchell Marsh and West Indies. ‘ Hayden Walsh Jr., in an ICC release.

“I get the most joy and satisfaction when I contribute to victories and, therefore, I am very happy to help Bangladesh’s successes over the past few weeks.”

West Indies all-rounder Taylor, who led his team to ODI and T20I series wins against Pakistan in July, was nominated for the award along with teammate Hayley Mathews and Pakistan’s Fatima Sana, but his all-round performance in the series helped him claim the most votes.

“It is a little surprising to me, winning the ICC Player of the Month award for July, but I am happy. It shows that the hard work you put in will pay off and it helped us win the series against Pakistan. We played well in both the formats,” said Taylor.

“I am playing in England now in The Hundred, which is a different kind of competition, played at a faster pace, but I am still working hard. We are also looking forward to the series against South Africa at home. Looking forward and we would like to win this too. I want to thank the fans for all their support, as it is always appreciated.”

In four ODIs against Pakistan, Taylor scored 175 runs at a strike rate of 79.18 and took three wickets at an economy rate of 3.72. She also topped the rankings for batsmen and all-rounders in the ICC Women’s ODI Rankings earlier in July.
