The BCB has reportedly issued Shakib, who is currently in Pakistan, a No Objection Certificate for a County Championship game which is slated to be played from September 9 in Taunton.
Veteran all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan will likely be flying to the United Kingdom next month before reuniting with the Test squad for the India tour. The former Bangladesh captain would play a County Championship game next month for Surrey as the club has been working on a deal to get him onboard before his team leaves for India.
The County Championship game is slated to be played from September 9, against Somerset in Taunton. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reportedly issued Shakib, who is currently in Pakistan, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the match.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, if the deal gets finalized, the veteran all-rounder will play for Surrey next month and then, will fly to Chennai where Bangladesh play their first Test against India on September 19. The Bangla Tigers will play a couple of Tests and three T20I against India before hosting South Africa in October.
Shakib to Continue Playing Until Proven Guilty in Ongoing Murder Case: BCB
BCB President Faruque Ahmed said Shakib would continue playing for Bangladesh despite being served a legal notice by a Supreme Court lawyer, suggesting that the all-rounder should not be part of the team since he has been named in a murder case.
“He (Shakib) will continue playing. We received a legal notice regarding bringing him back and we replied to them saying this [that he will continue to play],” Ahmed was quoted in a leading Bengali Daily Prothom Alo on Tuesday.
“Right now the FIR is filed and it is in the initial stage and there are a lot of steps after this and until he is proven guilty we will make him play. The Bangladesh team will go to India after the Pakistan series and we want him in that series as well. He is our contracted player and if necessary we will give him legal assistance,” he added.
Shakib was named in a murder case filed in Bangladesh on August 22.
