Shahid Afridi not impressed by last minute withdrawal from New Zealand’s tour of Pakistan

Veteran Pak all-rounder Shahid Afridi not impressed with New Zealand CricketMoments before the start of the series in Rawalpindi, it was decided to pull out of the Pakistan tour citing security concerns. New Zealand Cricket on Friday canceled its tour of Pakistan at the last minute after receiving a security alert from its government.

“Following the increase in the threat level of the New Zealand Government to Pakistan and the advice of NZC security advisors on the ground, it has been decided that the Black Caps will not continue the tour,” NZC said in an official statement.

After the Blackcaps pulled out of the tour, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan also spoke to his New Zealand counterpart Jacinda Ardern and tried to reassure her about her safety and urged her to continue with the tour. However, Ardern was not convinced and decided to stick to his decision to pull his team out of Pakistan.

However, New Zealand’s return in the eleventh hour has angered many former Pakistan players with the management of the Kiwis. And the loudest voice in criticism is former Pakistan captain Afridi. He even claimed that the security alert was a “fraudulent threat”.

“A HOAX threat you have canceled the tour despite all assurances,” Afridi tweeted. The former captain’s tweet also indicated that the impact of New Zealand’s withdrawal is going to be huge on Pakistan cricket.

Meanwhile, legendary Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar feels New Zealand “killed Pakistan cricket” with this last minute pullout. Akhtar also used several angry face emojis in his tweet.

It should be mentioned that this was New Zealand’s first tour of Pakistan in the last 18 years. But, unfortunately, the tour was canceled after the Blackcaps refused to come out of their hotel room after hearing about security concerns.

New Zealand are scheduled to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and five T20 Internationals against Pakistan from September 17.
