Superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Tuesday teased his new OTT venture, prompting congratulatory messages from friends and colleagues of Bollywood. Shah Rukh shared an announcement poster on Twitter, which read, “SRK+, COMING SOON”. Following this announcement, Salman Khan congratulated Shah Rukh for his “new OTT app”. SRK and his production banner Red Chillies Entertainment are yet to confirm whether SRK+ is indeed their new OTT app or not.
The 56-year-old actor, who has been away from the big screen since his last release Zero in 2018, captioned the post as “Kuch kuch hota wala hai, OTT ki Duniya Mein (OTT ki Duniya Mein Kuch Hota Hai)”
However, an ETimes report suggests that the poster only leads to an upcoming Disney+ Hotstar ad. Shah Rukh has been shooting for a lot of commercials for this platform and this is another one.
Says a source, “One wonders how and why so much speculation is being made about Shah Rukh’s poster. A correct official announcement may be made soon.”
Meanwhile, Salman shared Shah Rukh’s tweet and wrote, “Aaj ki party teri tarai se @iamsrk. Congratulations on your new OTT app SRK+.” Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap tweeted that he is collaborating with the superstar on the new OTT app. “Dream come true! Collaborating with @iamsrk on their new OTT app SRK+,” Kashyap wrote in the actor’s caption.
Shah Rukh’s frequent collaborator and friend Karan Johar also congratulated him on the new app. “Biggest news of the year! @iamsrk, it’s about to change the face of OTT. Excited!!!” Shah Rukh had forayed into the digital streaming space as a producer with Bard of Blood and Betaal, both streaming the series on Netflix.
Shah Rukh will next be seen in Pathan, which is slated to release on January 25, 2023. The spy action is helmed by Yash Raj Films and directed by Siddharth Anand.
