Nikkhil Advani’s Kal Ho Naa Ho remains one of Bollywood’s most iconic films, especially for Shah Rukh Khan’s unforgettable performance as Aman, a man battling a terminal illness. The climax scene, where Aman succumbs to his illness, has left a lasting emotional impact on audiences. Recently, Delnaaz Irani, who played Sweetu, opened up about filming that heart-wrenching moment, revealing that the on-set emotions were so intense that no actor needed glycerine to cry.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Delnaaz recalled the atmosphere on the set while shooting Aman’s death scene. “The last scene, Aman’s death scene, I clearly remember I had a TV shoot scheduled. We used to have combination shoots, so I asked my director if I could get a day off. He said, ‘Look, Delnaaz, this is a very big sequence, the most important part of the film, and I need you in this scene,’” she shared. Determined to be part of such a pivotal moment, Delnaaz rearranged her schedule. “I made sure that somehow I made things work out and was there for that shot,” she added.

Reflecting on the emotions that poured out during the shoot, Delnaaz continued, “Oh, I’m so glad I made sure I was a part of Aman’s big death scene, which was so crucial to the film. The actors present in that scene made it complete. The atmosphere was so real that none of the actors used glycerine—everyone was actually crying, which made the whole scene very memorable.”

Kal Ho Naa Ho also stars Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta in pivotal roles. Shah Rukh’s character, Aman, deeply in love with Naina (played by Preity), knows his fate and chooses to distance himself by bringing Naina closer to her friend Rohit (Saif). In a bittersweet twist, Aman watches Naina’s wedding celebrations from a distance, and soon after, his illness overtakes him. The raw emotion in the death scene is one of the reasons the film has such an enduring legacy.

With Kal Ho Naa Ho set to re-release in theatres on November 15, fans of the film will have a chance to relive the magic of this unforgettable classic on the big screen once more.
