Former India head coach Ravi Shastri led the cricket fraternity to congratulate Mohammed Shami for taking 200 Test wickets. Shami achieved this feat by taking five wickets in the first Test of the three-match series against South Africa on Tuesday. He became the third fastest Indian fast bowler to complete 200 wickets in Test cricket – 56 Tests. In Test cricket for India, only Kapil Dev (50) and Javagal Srinath (54) crossed the 200-wicket mark faster than Shami.
Shastri took to Twitter and wrote: “Shabash Sultan of Bengal @MdShami11. Dekh ke maza aah gaya. Biryani. Doh din ke baad. Mehnat ka Phal. God bless. #SAvIND #Shami #Shami200,” he wrote.
Shastri has coached Shami over the years and he has always talked a lot about the fast bowler. It was Shami’s sixth five-wicket haul in Test cricket and his second on South African soil.

Veteran India batsman VVS Laxman also praised Shami for his brilliant bowling against South Africa on the third day of the Boxing Day Test.
“Fantastic performance from Shami’s fast bowling, after a brilliant innings from Rahul on day one. A great way to get 5 wickets and 200 test wickets. His brilliant spell took India to a 130-run lead. Wishing to capitalize on the batsman and set a big target for South Africa,” Laxman wrote on Twitter.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer shared a collage of Shami delivering the ball and emphasizing on his seam position.
“No matter where you freeze the frame, the seam position will be straight. Congratulations on 200 Test wickets to one of the best in the business

India took a 130-run lead by dismissing South Africa for 197 in the first innings on the third day of the first Test of the three-match series at the SuperSport Park here on Tuesday.
South Africa, battling 109/5 in the first innings of tea, added 88 runs in the third session and lost the remaining five wickets.
