MUMBAI: Two days after a man was stabbed to death at Mahim beach late on Tuesday evening, two people were picked up from Nagpur on Thursday.
The deceased, Mohammed Waseem Shaikh (30), had stumbled upon some obscene videos and was allegedly trying to blackmail someone, leading to the murder, police sources said, adding that his girlfriend, who had also been stabbed, has nothing to do with the sextortion.
Officials of Mahim police station picked up the two suspects who were being brought to Mumbai late Thursday evening. Only one of the detained men was identified as Kamran alias Kammu.
Govandi residents Shaikh and his girlfriend were on the beach when the two suspects, also from Govandi, attacked them, said the police.

Police sources said his girlfriend has nothing to do with the sextortion.
The alleged attackers, who also live in the same locality, knew Shaikh. Shaikh had laid his hands on some obscene videos pertaining to the sexual behavior of some unidentified person and had been blackmailing the person to pay up, a police officer said, adding that this had sparked a fight on the beach and eventually led to the murder.
“Shaikh’s girlfriend was not aware of this,” a police officer said. Her identity has been held.
The woman who was also attacked and has sustained stab injuries on the neck has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital. The woman, who is the prime witness in the case, should be able to throw light on what happened that evening, an officer privy to the investigation said, adding that she is currently not in a position to give any information. The police quoted doctors as saying that the woman could take at least five days more to recover.
The couple had visited Mahim dargah late Tuesday after which they went to the beach and sat on tetrapods at a deserted spot. She later told the police that the two men walked up and started hitting them. When Shaikh questioned them, they attacked the couple with a knife. While Shaikh died due to serious injuries to the stomach, the injured woman took a taxi to get to a hospital. Shaikh’s body was found on the beach early Wednesday.
