Sewer lines overflow in Sector 23A, pose health hazards, say residents | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: There Residents of Sector 23A and commuters and pedestrians in the sector have been grappling with sewerage overflow on roads and other areas for nearly two months now. The residents that sewer lines clogged at multiple points overflow onto streets, parks and vacant plots in the sector, posing a risk of health hazards,
The residents claimed to have made several complaints with the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), but the problem persists to date. The MCG staff allegedly came to check out the problem but left without doing anything as they did not have jet machines or equipment to clear the sewer lines.
Neeru Yadav, president of Sector 23 A (east zone) RWA, said that the MCG is least bothered about addressing their grievances. “Clogged sewer lines have remained a problem for nearly a year. The problem has aggravated in the past two months as the civic body has come up with no solution despite our repeated pleas. Why are we paying taxes to the MCG if it cannot even clean the sewer lines? Officials have not even identified where the sewer lines are blocked. Besides, the stormwater drains are damaged and blocked here,” said Yadav.
She said that when the sector was under the supervision of the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), the RWA used to give a satisfaction letter on its work. Currently, she added, neither the MCG officials nor the contractors make any effort to resolve the problem due to a lack of accountability.
Residents fear that stagnate water, a breeding ground for mosquitoes, would lead to vector-borne diseases in the locality. “We cannot step out due to the overflowing sewer lines and the awful smell in the area. It is difficult to say if this is a planned sector or slum area,” Surbhi Goyal, a resident, said.
Mandeep Dankhar, the MCG executive engineer, said, “We have received complaints from one of the pockets of the sector, and we are working to resolve the problem at the earliest.”
