new Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted severe heatwave conditions in Delhi on Thursday (March 31, 2022). Several parts of the national capital witnessed scorching heat on Wednesday with the maximum temperature crossing 41 degrees at three places.
Amid scorching heat across the country, the IMD said that the temperature in the national capital may rise up to 40 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
The Meteorological Department also told us on Wednesday that there is a possibility of heat wave conditions in Central and West India during the next 4 to 5 days.
“The temperature is going to rise to 39 degrees, it may even reach 40 degrees. There is a heatwave, it will continue today and tomorrow including other parts of India. There will be a slight drop from April 1 and then there will be higher temperatures,” IMD official RK Jenamani said. “Continue the whole time,” he told ANI.
Met officials said hot weather conditions in northwest India have turned “severe” due to the prolonged drought. “The heat wave conditions are likely to continue for the next four to five days over Northwest, Central and West India.”

According to the IMD, a “heatwave” is declared for the plains when the maximum temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius and is at least 4.5 degrees above normal. If the departure from normal temperature is more than 6.4 degrees, a “severe” heatwave is declared.
Delhi’s temperature near 40 degree Celsius
Eight weather stations in Delhi recorded their maximum temperature above 40 degrees Celsius. The mercury was recorded at 41.7 degrees Celsius, 41.4 degrees Celsius and 41.5 degrees Celsius respectively at Narela, Pitampura and Sports Complex stations.
The Safdarjung Observatory, considered the official marker for the city, recorded 39.6 °C, eight notches above normal.

IMD officials said that there is a possibility of heat wave in Delhi from April 3 to April 5.

“Absence of weather system and presence of an anti-cyclone over Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan is propelling the heat wave over north and central India. March is going to end on a warm note with no respite till early March. Is.” Mahesh Palawat, Vice President, Meteorology and Climate Change, Skymet Weather said.
He said that light winds and dry weather would once again increase the temperature in Northwest India leading to heat wave conditions.
“While we expect a heat wave over some parts of central and northwest India by the end of March, it was not expected so early in the season.
“But I also wouldn’t be surprised because we’ve been seeing a gradual increase in daytime temperatures over the past few years. The record-breaking maximum temperature is now here to keep up with the rise in global average temperatures.”
Rain in some parts of Northeast India
On the other hand, isolated heavy rainfall is predicted over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam-Meghalaya between March 31 and April 3, under the influence of strong southwesterly winds over the lower troposphere levels over the Bay of Bengal over the north-eastern states.
