Several suspected fires in Saskatoon – Saskatoon | Globalnews.ca – Henry Club

The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to several small fires between 12:20 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, which they considered suspicious, according to a News release,

The first call came from the 3100 block of 33rd Street West to extinguish the dumper at 12.20 pm, a fire brigade responded and doused the fire. Estimated damage was $500 and no further damage occurred.

The second call came to the dumper from 500 block of Avenue H South at 1:07 am, the fire brigade responded and doused the fire. Estimated damage was $500 and no further damage occurred.

A third call came from the 600 block south of the avenue for a fence that caught fire just before 2 a.m. A fire brigade responded and put out the fire. The damage was estimated at $200 and there was no further damage.

The fourth call came from the 800 block of Avenue H South just before 2.30 pm about a shed setting on fire. Two fire engines responded and the battalion chief, who was searching the area for suspicious activity. On reaching there, the shed was completely gutted and two vehicles nearby caught fire. The fire was brought under control at 2.42 p.m. and damage is estimated at $25,000.

According to a news release, fire investigators believed all fires were started using an open flame device like a torch. All the fires are being treated as suspicious as other possible causes of the fire could not be identified.

Police were unable to send one of their investigators, but will continue the investigation and further action.

A garage fire also broke out on Thursday in the 900 block of Avenue H South, with damage estimated at $5,000.
