‘Serious lapse’: MLA who died 4 years ago was invited to PM Modi’s program in Patna

MadhubaniCongress workers in this northern Bihar district were taken by surprise when an invitation to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s function in the state capital came in the name of a deceased leader. The invitee, Abdul Hai Payami, represented the Loukaha assembly constituency in the 1980s and breathed his last four years ago.

Congress district president Sheetalmber Jha said, “We were speechless when the invitation letter came in the name of Payami sahib. Assembly officials should know that he is no more.”

The Assembly Secretariat said that “all sitting and former MLAs and MLCs” have been invited to the celebrations to be held as part of the centenary year of the Assembly Complex.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, he, however, admitted that the inclusion of a dead person in the list of invitees, which was approved by the Special Security Group, was a “serious omission”.
