Sensex down 366 points, Nifty closes at 16,498; auto, bank stock drag

Bears occupied D-Street on Thursday during the second half of the trading session due to geopolitical uncertainty and weekly F&O expiry. After opening over 450 points, the S&P BSE Sensex turned volatile and eventually closed the session in the red. The index was last seen trading 366 points or 0.66 per cent lower at 55,103. On NSE, the Nifty 50 index touched the day’s high and low at 16,769 and 16,463, respectively. It closed trading at 16,498, down 108 points or 0.65 per cent.

ONGC, Power Grid, UPL, Wipro, Tech M, HCL Tech and Coal India were the top gainers on the Nifty index today, rising between 2 per cent and 4.6 per cent. On the downside, UltraTech Cement, HDFC Life, Asian Paints, Shree Cement, Eicher Motors, SBI Life and Tata Consumer Products were the top laggards, falling up to 6.5 per cent.

However, the broader markets ended mixed with the BSE Midcap index falling 0.64 per cent. On the other hand, the BSE Smallcap index rose 0.35 per cent.

Among sectors, auto, capital goods and banks fell 1-2 per cent, while FMCG and realty indices fell 0.5 per cent. However, metal, IT, oil and gas, power indices rose 1-2 per cent. The BSE Midcap index rose 0.6 percent and the Smallcap index rose 0.35 percent.

Among individual stocks, Vodafone Idea (VI) shares rose 7.5 per cent to Rs 11.23 on the BSE ahead of a board meeting to consider raising funds in Thursday’s intra-day trade. The telecom service provider’s stock remained higher for the fourth consecutive day and gained 16 per cent during the period.

Besides, shares of Adani Green Energy rose 6 per cent to Rs 1,995.95 on BSE in Thursday’s intra-day trade, after rising 9 per cent in the last two trading days, after the company announced that it would hand over the Letter of Award (LOA). ) have been found. ) to set up a 150 MW solar power project.

Meanwhile, agro-chemicals major UPL Ltd on Thursday said it will sell 49.98 per cent equity in its non-operating subsidiary Agri Net Solutions Ltd (ANSL) to Nerka Chemicals, a promoter group unit, for Rs 1.75 crore.
