New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said on the eve of the inauguration of the new Parliament building that the more united India is, the stronger it will be and those who cannot tolerate the country’s progress will try to obstruct it.

PM Modi also said that Sengol, the symbol of transfer of power kept in the form of ‘moving stick’ at Anand Bhavan in Prayagraj, will get its rightful place on Sunday.

PM Modi said, ‘It would have been better if this revered Sengol was given a proper place after independence. But this sengol was displayed in the form of a stick in Anand Bhawan of Prayagraj.

“Our government has now brought that Sengol out of Anand Bhawan and he is getting his due place in the temple of democracy,” he said. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister met Adhinam at his residence and sought his blessings.

He said in his address to the subordinates, ‘I am happy that tomorrow at the inauguration of the new Parliament House, all of you are going to personally come there to bless.’

Highlighting the role of Tamil Nadu in the freedom struggle, he said that the southern state has been a bastion of Indian nationalism in every age. Despite this, it is unfortunate that the Tamil people were not given the importance they should have been given during India’s independence. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has started raising this issue prominently. The country is also getting to know what happened to Tamil Nadu.

He said that when the time of independence came, the question arose about the symbol of transfer of power. At that time under the guidance of Raja ji and Adhinam we got a virtuous path from our ancient Tamil culture. “And the way was to transfer power through Sengol,” he said.

He further added that in Tamil tradition, Sengol was given to the ruler. It symbolized that the wearer had the responsibility of ensuring the welfare of the country and would never deviate from the path of duty.
