‘See you on the field’: Kamal Haasan to rally for MNM in all 9 districts for Tamil Nadu local body elections

Tamil superstar-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Thursday announced that he will campaign for his political party Makkal Nidhi Maiyam in all nine districts for the upcoming Tamil Nadu local body elections.

Haasan shrugged off the victory confidence on Twitter and said the MNM party “stands with the people in the local body elections”.

“I will campaign in all the nine districts. See you on the field. The victory is ours,” Haasan wrote in Tamil.

Haasan’s MNM will field 1,521 candidates in the rural local body elections to be held in nine districts of Tamil Nadu. The elections are to be held on October 6 and October 9.

Party vice-president and senior leader AG Maurya said in a statement on Tuesday that Kamal Haasan will campaign in the elections. He said that the party will campaign vigorously in the elections and will win seats.

MNM has a good presence in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Vellore. In each of the nine districts where elections are to be held, a district or regional secretary has been made in-charge.

Maurya said that the party would field good candidates based on the recommendations of the district and zonal secretaries who are in-charge of each district.

He also said that senior party leaders like Thangavelu, Sripiya and Senthil Arumugam would contest the elections. This will be the first local body elections since Kamal Haasan formed the MNM in 2018.

Maurya said the party is likely to contest the elections alone and there have been no discussions with other parties.

Several senior leaders have left the MNM after the defeat in the recent assembly elections. The party is now trying to show its existence by winning some seats in the rural local body elections.
