Martyr Major Anuj Rajput got engaged a month and a half ago and it was his birthday on 18th September. But two days later, on 21 September, his helicopter crashed at Patnitop in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir and he was martyred. The martyr Major was cremated in Panchkula with state honors on Wednesday. 26-year-old martyr Major Anuj Rajput has been living with his parents in Panchkula for the past several years, but his family ties are from Dobhi village in Hisar. Anuj’s ancestral village is Dobhi, from where his father Kulbansh Singh came to Chandigarh about 25 years ago to practice law. Fateh Singh, the grandfather of martyr Major Anuj Rajput, lives in Sector 14 of Hisar along with his uncles Joan and Mohan. According to villagers, Anuj’s father Kulbansh had left the village many years ago. His grandfather Fateh Singh occasionally comes to Dobhi to meet the villagers and his family members. The villagers also came to know on Wednesday after this incident that martyr Anuj Rajput is the son of his village. Anuj’s grandfather Fateh Singh, who belonged to the Namdev community, used to do farming in the village itself and also had a good hold in politics. Anuj Rajput was the only son of his parents.

Anuj Rajput studied till 12th in Chandigarh. After this he went to Dehradun to study NDA. In the year 2015, he became a Major. Birthday was on 18th September. 26-year-old Anuj became a Major in 2015. A month and a half ago, on July 23, he got engaged to a girl from Delhi. Anuj Rajput’s mother Usha Arya had told her friend that she would marry him in February 2022, but her dream could not be fulfilled. Usha Arya is a teacher in a government school in village Kundi, Sector-20, Panchkula. She was very happy about the son’s marriage after his engagement. She was busy preparing to bring a daughter-in-law to her house. But the news of the martyrdom of the son came.

Captain DK Uppal, Anuj’s neighbor, said that Major Rajput had narrowly escaped a similar accident about a year ago. Cheetah chopper was stuck in high voltage wire. Anuj was lucky, as the power was switched off at that time due to repair works. Sadly, he could not avoid the accident this time. Anuj was very polite, obedient. We had never seen a child like him. Coming from a family of pilots, Major Rajput was fond of flying from a young age. He was only 18 when he joined the NDA and became a commissioned officer. He was promoted to the rank of Major only a month and a half ago. He received many awards during the service.

Helicopter crashed due to bad weather
Army’s Cheetah helicopter crashed due to bad weather near Patnitop area of Jammu and Kashmir. In which the pilot and co-pilot died. The deceased jawans were identified as Major Rohit Kumar and Major Anuj Rajput. The helicopter took off from Nagrota area. The accident took place between 10.30 and 10.45 am on September 21 in Shivgarh Dhar. Both pilots were on training. The Cheetah helicopter was on a routine flight. Meanwhile, due to bad weather, a force landing had to be made and the helicopter crashed in it.
