Hyderabad: A huge Fire broke on Secunderabad Club during the early hours of Sunday. While club officials are estimating the damage to property correctly, it is estimated that the damage will be more than Rs 25 crore.
Established on April 26, 1878, Secunderabad Club is one of the oldest clubs in India.
According to the police, the security personnel of the club informed the control room about the fire in the main building at around 2.30 am. Meanwhile, the patrolling Blue Colts team also noticed the fire and informed about the fire being brought under control.
As per preliminary investigation, the fire broke out on the first floor of the three-storey main building, where the club management’s offices are located and has spread to the rest of the structure, Marredpally Inspector Mattaiah said.
Eight fire tenders reached the spot and doused the fire continuously for four hours.
The 60,000 feet heritage structure has three floors. Northern Zone DCP G Chandana Deepti said the entire structure was completely damaged by the fire.
The damaged main building houses the reception, bar and dining area, kitchen, ball room, super market, office of management, store room and billiards room. The structure has a lot of wood which according to fire officials is one of the reasons for the rapid spread of the flames.
Police said that the club management is preparing a complaint and based on that they will register a case and start investigation.
