Sec Begins Process For Civic Body Election | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: With the finalization of seat reservation process for various civic bodies, the state election commission (SEC) has begun the process of conducting election to over 100 urban local bodies (ULBs) which has been delayed by around three years.
The commission has set timeline for preparations of the final electoral, likely to be ready by this month-end. The SEC has already received seat reservation and ward delimitation process for various ULBs. Hence, we can start the process of urban polls in the state, said state election commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi,
Briefing reporters here, Padhi said there will be no new addition of voters in the electoral roll as the constituency-wise revised voters’ list was prepared by the Election Commission of India on January 1.
“We will use the recently-revised voters’ list and split it ward-wise. If the name of any voter (figured in assembly-wise electoral roll) is missed during preparation of ward-wise electoral roll, it can be restored. Correction is also allowed if name of a voter from a particular ward is mistakenly added in another ward,” said Padhi.
Once the ward-wise split is done, the draft electoral roll (both soft and hard copies) will be shared with the national and state level parties.
According to the schedule, the draft electoral roll will be published on February 10 while objections and suggestions from general public can be received between February 11 and 16, which will be scrutinised by February 18. The final electoral roll will be prepared by February 24 and it will be sent to the state poll panel on February 28.
Official sources in the SEC said as many as 110 civic bodies including three municipal corporations, 48 municipalities and 59 notified area councils (NACs) are likely to go to poll in April-May this year.
