The reason for this is that scrub typhus has raised concern in this district of North Bengal. According to the District Health Department, till May this year, about 60 cases of scrub typhus were reported. Along with corona, monkey pox, scrub typhus is increasing concern in Bengal. Cases of scrub typhus have suddenly started increasing in Cooch Behar district. In the last few months, the number of scrub typhus cases in the district (Cooch Behar) has crossed 80. The District Health Department has been dispatched to deal with the situation.
The Cooch Behar district health department is already forming special teams with health workers in gram panchayats and municipalities. The team includes health workers as well as workers of municipal corporation and gram panchayat. They are roaming in the area collecting blood of people suffering from fever as well as running an awareness campaign about scrub typhus infection.
Health department officials are hopeful that cases of scrub typhus will come to the fore and the prevalence of this disease can be stopped only if the public is aware.
According to the District Health Department, the number of scrub typhus cases last year was 4. This time around 15-fold increase in numbers in the first five months is due to more tests being conducted, say district health officials.
Scrub Typhus: Symptoms
Like normal fever, the symptoms of this disease are:
1. Pain in hands and feet.
2. Insect bite marks are found on the body.
3. Headache
4. Persistent fever
5. Low blood pressure
6. Cough and cold in some cases
7. Rash all over the body.
8. Stomach Troubles
Scrub Typhus: Causes
1. Doctors say that just as the Aedes mosquito bites dengue, in the same way the scrub typhus bacteria enter the body due to the bite of an insect called trombiculid mites!
2. If caught earlier, it is possible to deal with scrub typhus quickly.
3. Scrub typhus becomes fatal if diagnosis is delayed.
