Team India will return to the Caribbean for a Test series after four years, starting their campaign in the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2023-25. The two-match Test series will mark the beginning of a new era for the Indian team in the longest format as they look to press the button of change as the stalwarts have been ousted. The decision on Kohli’s future participation in Tests will be taken on the basis of his performance in the upcoming two-match series and the former India skipper will be eager to perform. Kohli has played decent innings in the 40s-50s but has failed to perform well and score big on many occasions. However, Kohli will be a bit more confident this time around the opponent as he averages 53 against the West Indies in Test cricket.

Ahead of the month-long tour, Kohli was asked about his favorite memory of playing in the Caribbean and he cited his only three-figure score, a double century in Antigua in 2016 when the legendary Sir Vivian Richards was present at the venue. Kohli admits following Viv Richards Sachin Tendulkar Growing up and in front of one of my idols, scoring my first double century in Test cricket must have been a dream come true moment.

“My favorite memory is obviously Antigua. I scored my first double hundred in Test cricket against Sir Vivian Richards in Antigua. It was a very special moment for me and then he also met me in the evening and congratulated me. It doesn’t get any better than this,’ Kohli said on ‘Follow the Blues’ on Star Sports.

Apart from that double hundred in 2016, Kohli hasn’t had a good run in the West Indies of late. In 9 Tests in the Caribbean, Kohli has scored 463 runs at an average of 35, which is well short of his overall record against the West Indies. Thus, these two Test matches will be really important for Kohli not only personally, but also for the future of the Indian team in red-ball cricket.
