In a series of slides on Instagram, Scooter Braun recalled his first assignment as a manager to artist Cato at the age of 19.
Scooter Braun, the popular record executive, has announced his retirement from music management after 23 years. On June 17, he shared an elaborate write-up on Instagram confirming the conclusion of his management career. He is however to retain his position as the CEO of the entertainment company HYBE America. In his long social media post, Scooter Braun added that he was willing to pay more attention to his personal life, especially focusing on his three children — sons Jagger and Levi, and daughter Hart.
“23 years” captioned Scooter Braun. In a series of slides, the 42-year-old recalled his first assignment as a manager to artist Cato at the age of 19. “Along the way, I have had so many experiences I could never have dreamt of. I have been blessed to have had a ‘Forrest Gump’-like life while witnessing and taking part in the journeys of some of the most extraordinarily talented people the world has ever seen. I’m constantly pinching myself and asking ‘how did I get here?’ And after 23 years this chapter as a music manager has come to an end.” he wrote.
Elaborating on his hectic journey as a record executive, Scooter Braun continued, “For my entire adult life I played the role of an artist manager on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And for 20 years I loved it. It’s all I had known. But as my children got older, and my personal life took some hits, I came to the realization that my kids were 3 superstars I wasn’t willing to lose.”
Scooter Braun established the careers of iconic artists like Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato and Dan + Shay. Two years ago, he made an unofficial exit from managing Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande to work closely as the chief of HYBE America — the South Korean entertainment agency behind K-pop titans BTS.
In 2018, Scooter Braun got embroiled in a controversy for acquiring the rights to Taylor Swift’s first six albums that he purchased from record company Big Machine Record Group, reported Variety. Swift claimed Braun’s acquisition was dishonest, which tainted his reputation. Further, rumours started spreading like wildfire that some of Braun’s clients were unhappy with him.
