Schwarting’s 5 TD Charleston Send Citadel To The Southern Past

Charleston, SC: Jack Chambers threw four touchdown passes, all to Garris Schwarting, who threw one, and Charleston Southern beat The Citadel 38-21 in the Buccaneers season opener on Saturday.

The Buccaneers scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and were never behind.

Chambers threw a 23-yard scoring pass to Schwarting for a 7-0 lead. Schwarting threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Kiris Barnett for a two-point lead. Chambers closed first to throw a 27-yard score to Schwarting. In the third, the pair added on a 69-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 31-14. The pair made 38-21 with 5:04 for 24-yards.

Cooper Wallace reduced it to 31-21 from 16 yards to cut the Bulldogs (0-2) short, with a 2:31 left in the third but never came close.

Schwarting finished for 151 yards taking six catches and Chambers threw for 287 yards.

Jaylan Adams threw 167 yards for Charleston Southern.
