In the second week of February, the authorities decided to reopen schools in Jammu and Kashmir as the number of Covid cases had dropped significantly.
Officials said school buses full of students left for the respective schools in the city and other parts of the Valley.
As the number of vehicles increased – due to the reopening of schools – during rush hour, many parts of the city saw massive traffic jams, but for once, no one was complaining.
Outside the main schools, students had to stand in queues to check body temperature as part of the anti-Covid standard operating procedure.
Secondary and higher secondary students – who are usually in the age group of 15 to 18 years – can be seen carrying their vaccination certificates to be shown at the entrance.
The government has made complete vaccination mandatory for students above the age of 15 to allow them to attend individual classes.
Schools have taken several steps as part of anti-Covid measures, including breaking up of classes into odd-even groups.
