ED officials were divided into at least six teams and raided properties allegedly owned by Shantanu Banerjee in Balagarh, Bandel, Chinsurah and other areas of West Bengal’s Hooghly district.

The ED on Saturday raided various places in neighboring Hooghly district in search of properties of arrested and now expelled TMC leader Shantanu Banerjee as part of its probe into the alleged cash scam for school jobs in West Bengal. the agency said.

He said ED officials were divided into at least six teams and raided properties owned by Shantanu Banerjee in Balagarh, Bandel, Chinsurah and other areas of West Bengal’s Hooghly district since Saturday morning.

‘ So far nothing much has been found from inside Shantanu’s properties. We had to break the locks of two flats in Bandel and Chinsurah. The lock of the main door of the guest house registered in the name of the accused was also broken.

He said that the ED has not found anything significant which can help them in taking the investigation to the next level.

“The search operation is still on, it may take a few more hours to be completed,” he added.

Banerjee is in the custody of the central probe agency. He was expelled from the ruling Trinamool Congress soon after his arrest by the ED.

The probe body is probing the scam and has arrested several people for their alleged involvement in irregularities in recruitment to teaching and non-teaching jobs in government and aided schools.
