Satyendar Jain Withdraws Contempt Plea Against ED for Allegedly Leaking Tihar CCTV Videos

Jailed Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday withdrew his contempt petition in a Delhi court against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for allegedly leaking CCTV videos of him in Tihar Jail to the media. Took it.

Jain’s lawyer withdrew the plea from the Rouse Avenue court in connection with the leaked CCTV footage from the jail cell, which purportedly shows the minister getting massages, welcoming visitors and serving food from outside.

The AAP leader had filed a petition against the ED alleging that the central probe agency had leaked the footage despite giving an undertaking in the court.

Jain had earlier approached a special court in November seeking a stay on the CCTV footage or details of Tihar Jail. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had in October pulled out a footage of the Tihar jail cell where Jain is kept, claiming it was evidence of the minister influencing key witnesses brought to his cell by jail staff.

The videos were leaked earlier this month and shared by several media channels and acted as fodder for the BJP to launch a fresh attack on the opposition party.

The AAP in turn called it a “political witch hunt”.

Jain was arrested on May 30 on charges of money laundering under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
