Rajkot: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested the husband of a woman. sarpanch For taking bribe of Rs 3 lakh from an employee of a mine and mineral company for allowing industrial construction near mines from Bhuj taluka of Kutch district.
According to ACB officials, Kukma village sarpanch Kankuben Marwada and her husband Amrit Marwada demanded Rs 5 lakh from a company owning mines in Kukma village to allow construction to take place near the mines. The firm had already paid a bribe of Rs 1 lakh but the sarpanch and her husband were demanding Rs 4 lakh more. The firm’s management approached the ACB and lodged a complaint against the couple.
“We laid a trap on Thursday evening asking the sarpanch to collect Rs 4 lakh from the firm’s office in Bhuj. Amrit Marwada and two of his associates – Raoji Bochia and Ritesh Bochia – came there and we caught them taking a bribe of Rs 4 lakh. We also arrested the woman sarpanch Kankuben Marwada on Friday.
