Sanjeeda Shaikh is currently basking in praise for her performance in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Sanjay Leela Bhansali stepped into the OTT world with his debut web series and Sanjeeda plays one of the leads, Waheeda, in the show. She recently opened up about her divorce from actor Aamir Ali and said that she takes strength from her daughter.

Speaking to Hauterrfly, she said, “I feel I am very lucky (to have emerged from) whatever happened with me. Maybe I felt then that I was the most depressed person, or I was very sad, or, ‘What is happening with me, what is happening with my life?’ But to overcome all of that and to be happy with this version of myself, I am blessed.”

“There are men, and there are partners who try to demotivate you, who tell you that you can’t do anything. Or they will say you will not be able to do this. It’s better to be away from such people. There are phases in every relationship where you are happy, and then there are some when you are not, and then you take a call for your life and that’s what I did for myself, because I started loving myself and I started prioritising myself and that is very, very important,” she said.

Speaking about being a single mother, Sanjeeda said, “What is a single mother? I am a mother… I just tell everyone that a mother is a mother, single or not does not matter. My responsibilities won’t change. As a mother, what I have to do, I will do it.”

Sanjeeda Shaikh has been a popular name in the Indian television industry for long. The couple dated for several years before tying the knot in 2012. The couple separated in 2020 after 8 years of marriage and were granted divorce in 2021. Sanjeeda has the custody of their daughter, Ayra Ali.

As for her show, Heeramandi is set in the 1940s against the backdrop of the struggle for independence. It looks at the cultural reality of a major district in pre-partition India through the eyes of courtesans and nawabs. The series stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Sharmin Segal. The star cast also included Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah, Shekhar Suman, and Adhyayan Suman. The series premiered on Netflix on May 1.
