Mumbai Police, probing the illegal phone tapping case against senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla, on Saturday recorded the statement of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut in the office of Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’. The statement was recorded a day after he was served notice in this regard.

Raut’s phone was allegedly tapped twice in 2019 by the state intelligence, which was then led by Shula, when talks of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress forming an MVA government after the results of the state assembly elections were underway. Was.

Earlier, Mumbai Police had recorded the statement of Nationalist Congress Party leader Eknath Khadse in the case as his phone was also allegedly tapped during the same period, the official said.

Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil had last month claimed that the phones of four elected representatives were tapped between 2015 and 2019 under the guise that they were drug smugglers.

The Maharashtra government had constituted a three-member panel headed by the then Director General of Police Sanjay Pandey to probe the alleged phone tapping.

Shukla, who was posted as Pune Police Commissioner between March 2016 and July 2018, is currently on central deputation and posted as Additional Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Hyderabad.

An FIR was registered against Shukla under relevant sections of the Indian Telegraph Act for alleged illegal tapping of phones of politicians between 2015 and 2019 during his tenure as Pune Police Commissioner.
