Sanjay Leela Bhansali to collaborate with Netflix for Hiramandi

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for stellar films like “Devdas”, “Bajirao Mastani” and “Padmavat”, has joined hands with streamer Netflix for a pre-independence set series, “Hiramandi”. Described as an obsessive project by the director, who has just completed 25 years in show business, the series will explore the tales of the etiquette and hidden cultural reality of “Hiramandi”, a dazzling district, during pre-independent India.

It is a series about love, betrayal, succession and politics in ‘Kotha’ that promises larger-than-life sets, multi-faceted characters and soulful compositions that are Bhansali’s trademark. This piece-de-resistance will be created by the master filmmaker for the detail and in-depth intricacies only he is capable of, the streamer said in a statement. Bhansali, 58, described “Hiramandi” as an important milestone in his journey as a filmmaker.
