The terminal at San Francisco International Airport reported a bomb threat on Friday (July 15) night. Airport officials immediately ordered evacuation, where hundreds of passengers were forced to leave the terminal. Officers found a possible incendiary device that was detaining one person.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the bomb threat was reported around 8:15 a.m., where officers found a suspicious package. “Investigators at the airport considered the item to be possibly incendiary. One person was detained but other details were not immediately available. The terminal was evacuated very carefully,” police said.
Update: The International Terminal and Garage A&G are still closed. Police is continuing the investigation. AirTrain and BART service is still suspended. Hundreds of passengers were forced to leave the terminal. The airport announced the evacuation on Twitter at 9:28 pm without giving details about police activity. The airport’s AirTrain and Bay Area Rapid Transit trains were suspended.
According to a tweet by the transit agency, the airport’s BART station was closed till 8:42 pm. Passenger drop-off and pick-up were confined to the airport’s domestic terminals.
